Yes, i'm just coming home from my town's mini car show. I Live in Surabaya btw, 2nd biggest city in Indonesia, and yes, they have a car show. And this is the star, the MAN R37 Bus. Look at that!

Kinja'd!!!

It's the most expensive bus you can buy in here at 350k dollars, but you get a space for about 26 person. But those 26 person will be enjoying one of the best coach experience in their life.

Kinja'd!!!

Just look at this 26 seats on the 2nd floor. All those seats is electric, and can massage you. Plus each seats have their own 7" TV. Which is very luxurious for Indonesian Standard.

On lower deck, you got this lounge, with sofa, toilet, tv, and coffee maker. Just in case you're bored at the top.

Kinja'd!!!

The driver got their own compartment with a sleeping room behind him. Too bad the bus was automatic tough, 12 speed triptonic gearbox made by ZF.

Kinja'd!!!

There's a small complaints from me tough. 1) The headroom is too low (i was 5 foot 10 inch, btw and my head constantly hit the celling while i was walking), 2) they don't let me see the engine, and 3) nobody allowed to drive it yet. But still, i love this bus.

Kinja'd!!!

And trust me, that's the best car featured in this show, which is sad :(

Not to be racist, but is 5 foot 10 inch considered tall for Indonesians?

I was wondering the same thing. 5'10'' is at or below average for a male where I live, but MAN is a German brand so I don't really understand how they can make the roof this low. Then again, I'm not really familiar with double decker buses.

no, it's average.

the roofline is low because the Indonesian regulations limit he bus height to 4 metres.

As a bus driver, having an automatic isn't a bad thing in a bus. The old stick shifts were awful to drive. Though that 12-speed ZF is a semi-automatic, has a clutch and gears but they are computer controlled. Not very good in heavy city traffic. I drove one yesterday lol.

But somehow i'm a fans of 6-speed stickshift. Especially on the Mercedes one.
*I'm not a bus driver but i know how to drive a bus.

Oh I'm all for manual transmissions in cars (don't mind my Focus with a 6-sp DCT oops) but at work the regular automatics are much preferred. They work fine and they're smooth. Granted, our stickshift buses are all gone now, the newest one then was from like 1995. I would figure the newer, european-designed bus/truck manual trans are much better to drive... though Volvo's manumatic i-Shift is a brilliant work of art.

Not sure about Germany, but the standard max height of trucks etc in the UK is 4.2m, and the absolute max is only a metre more. By the time you squeeze two decks, a luggage compartment, and running gear into that height, you have to compromise somewhere. 5'10" is reasonable enough considering you're not supposed to stand on the upper deck, only go to your seat and sit down. A few more inches would be nice - she's never said that, actually - but if the height restriction is a bit lower in Indonesia, the difference has to come in somewhere.

I owned a Bedford Viceroy with a 5-spd & 466 I6 diesel. Like stirring porrige with cogwheels in it.

That's not racist. Just a question. To answer that question I would say it's equivalent to someone being 6' to 6'2" in the U.S. Not tall tall, but tall enough.

As someone who has spent quite a lot of time on double decker buses, I believe I can provide some clarification. The top deck of a double decker bus isn't intended for standing passengers; you either find a seat, or stand on the bottom deck. As such, they don't have to offer much headroom up there, as the only time you're going to be standing up on the top is when boarding or alighting. Even here in in the UK, where the average height for an adult male is around 176 cm (5'9''), you get a lot of people ducking to get off the bus.

Being 172cm (5'6"), I've always found the top decks of double deckers almost cathedral-esque in height.

I'm guessing that a lot of people will be surprised to see rhd in Indonesia.

Yes, rhd is more common than many people think!

Are there any North American buses running that have these mirrors? I wish every bus had them. I do like the lower lounge area.

Ten years ago in college, I did a study-abroad trip to the Ecuadorian rain forest. We were an hour away from the nearest town, down a single dirt road. A few times a day a bus would go up and down the road so that people could get to town. One day, our group took the bus into town. The bus was pretty much full, so most of our group had to stand, including myself. I am 5'10", and I couldn't stand up straight in the bus (which was just a single-deck bus, nothing fancy). The ceiling of the bus was probably only at 5'8" or so. I was thinking, "why in the world would they build a bus like this?". Then I noticed that every single local who was standing had several inches of headroom, no one was within 3" of the ceiling.

Anyway, that's my anecdote.
